"Power Line Portrait, Braddock and Poplar Tree", oil on canvas, 12"x12"

Well, I just had to paint this, since I've been staring at the power lines around here during all my walks. I couldn't get up the courage to sit out on this corner and paint, however, so I was forced to work mainly from my mind and some photographs. Very unsatisfying, I must say. I will paint some more of these, maybe even on site if I get braver.

Hi Amy -- glad to see you're at it again!

Sorry to hear it's one you're not happy with; I think that not being happy with one's own work is kind of the mark of an artist, alas.

But I think it's great! It's an unusual view, great composition, and the power lines give a great feel of uplift and energy. Awesome!

Thanks, Chris, actually, for what it is, I'm not too unhappy with it. It's just that working from a photo is inherently unsatisfying to me.

I like the composition and the overall feeling of this painting. I understand you're shyness about painting in public, since I feel the same way about it. I hope you work up the nerve and try it, though, since that's what you really want to do.

I actually have painted in public quite a bit, (I even copy at the National Gallery,) but this spot feels a little TOO public!

Okay, now I understand. I really hate painting in a very public spot, especially in a location where it would be rare to ever see a painter.
